This course is designed to acquaint the student with basic audio engineering fundamentals. Emphasis is placed on microphone techniques, recording principals, musician and recording engineers’ code. Upon completion, students should be able to do basic studio recordings.
Upon completion of this course with a “C” or better, students should be able to do the following:
- Identify the components of sound waves
- Create proper signal routing through analog and digital recording consoles
- Identify three types of signals (microphone, low impedance, line level)
- Demonstrate ability to get proper recording gain and signal routing into Pro Tools
- Identify the three classes of microphones and the characteristics of each class
- Utilize proper placement of microphones on musical instruments and voice
- Identify various signal processing devices and the uses of each
- Employ Professionalism in the recording studio
